Mackenzie & Ebert

Internationale renoveringer omfatter bla New South Wales Golf Club i Sydney, County Sligo i Irland og Royal Zoute GC i Belgien.

I Furesø Golfklub er vi stolte af at være i samme selskab, og vi er umådeligt tilfredse med Mackenzie & Eberts arbejde.

Natural Surroundings as Inspiration

A word from Tom Mackenzie: “When I first visited the Club during the selection period, I was immediately impressed with the landscape, not least the mature trees and field lines. The courses had been laid out well and it was obvious that this was a good canvas on which to work. Our priority was to make the most of these features and the existing layout, while improving the look of the course by reworking the bunkers completely to give them a new and aesthetically shaped character. This work often involved reshaping the green surrounds at the same time to remove many obviously artificial mounds to make the course look an integral part of the lovely natural setting”

Strategic Course Design for All Players

continued: “American golf writer, Bradley Klein, wrote that “golf course architecture is about what happens when the ball hits the ground” and it is so true. We love to encourage players to play the ball along ground in the traditional way, especially when a club has such exquisitely firm greens. The lovely fescue-dominated greens at Furesø are a great feature of the course, but most players struggle to stop the ball on them. We therefore looked to open up entrances to the greens to allow everyone to run the ball onto at least part of the putting surface, if in the right part of the fairway. We also shaped the green surrounds to have hollows and bunkers that create interesting and varied challenges throughout the season. We believe that this approach encourages shot-making and rewards strategic course management in an era when many longer players are trying to overwhelm courses with their length with too little real golfing appreciation alongside their power. The great golf course architect said “that’s why it is called golfing and not hitting.” Our focus in the design was to cater for all standards of players – to test those with the skill a little more and to offer a playable way around for those who make the game difficult for themselves. Golf is a game to be enjoyed even if we sometimes forget that. It is always great to see the best golfers play a course where we have done a significant amount of work and it will be interesting to see how the DPWT tournament unfolds. I am immensely proud and honoured to be connected with Furesø and look forward to seeing it continue to succeed”
